Celebrity Mail Bag

Q. Is it true that, when Trigger died, Roy Rogers had the horse 'stuffed'? - B.C. Shreveport, La.
A. Yes. Roy's preserved horse, Trigger, is on display at the Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Museum in Victorville, Calif. - along with his dog, Bullet, and Dale's horse, Buttermilk.

Q. Which star in Hollywood gets the most fan mail? - N.A. Dallas, Tx.
A. Julia Roberts - according to the new Fan Mail Hall of Fame. The organization surveys post offices, music labels and movie studios each month. Their latest surveys indicated Julia gets approximately 44,000 pieces of mail monthly. Her closest fan mail competitor, according to the same fan mail surveys, was George Lucas, with 32,000 pieces of mail each month, followed by Oprah Winfrey with 27,000. (Tom Hanks ranked fourth with 24,000 followed by NBA star Michael Jordan with 19,000).

Q. I heard that Tom Hanks was considering a career in politics. True or false? - B.T. Tulsa, Okla.
A. False. Hanks once told reporters, 'Politics bores me. I'd rather have the flu.'

Q. My wife and I had an argument about whether Michael Jackson donated money to the Los Angeles Zoo. And, if so, for what purpose? Can you clarify this for us? - J.T. Provo, Utah.
A. Michael Jackson donated money to a zoo, okay, but it was in San Diego, not Los Angeles. He gave $1-million to the zoo after it unveiled a 6-foot statue of his beloved chimp, Bubbles. (Despite the generous gift, some zoo officials became upset over the deal, because Michael, reportedly, wanted to change the clothes on the statue every day).

Q. I heard on the radio that Tanya Tucker once tried to commit suicide. Is this correct or a rumor? - L.Y. Monroe, La.
A. The Texas singer did once attempt suicide - in her early 20s - and later did a six-week rehab stint at the Betty Ford Clinic in 1988.

Q. I say the original name of TV's Mr. Ed was Mr. Marcus. My sister says it was always Mr. Ed. Who's right? - S.K. Tempe, Arizona
A. Neither of you have the right answer. The original name of TV's Mr. Ed was Bamboo Harvester.

Q. Does Elizabeth Taylor have a blind cat? - B.R. Midlothian, Tex.
A. No, Liz doesn't own a cat. However, her 12-year-old Maltese terrier, Sugar, is partially blind and deaf. She takes the pup everywhere, even to the bathroom.

Q. A co-worker at my office says that Madonna has it written into her contract that two bottles of Absolut vodka must be placed in her dressing room before each concert. Is that true? - C.A.R. Cheyene, Wyoming
A. Yes. But, the booze isn't for drinking. I'm told Madonna uses it as a 'spot remover' for her stage costumes. (Wardrobe mixes the vodka with water and presto, her perspiration stains vanish).

Q. My hubby sez that when Hillary Clinton was the first lady, she 'saw visions' of past political figures wandering the halls at night in the White House. True or false? - P.D. Billings, Montana
A. False - Former president Harry Truman once claimed that the White House was haunted. Former presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower claimed they often saw Abraham Lincoln wandering around in the corridors. And, Woodrow Wilson's wife said she once spotted the spirit of Dolly Madison in the Rose Garden. (Hillary actually told the press that it was 'creepy' living in the White House, and that, sometimes, she felt like she was summoning up spirits of all the people who had lived there).

Q. As soon as she was released from the UCLA Medical Center, after being treated for a nervous breakdown, I heard that Mariah Carey made a beeline for a pizza joint. Right or wrong? E.R. Modesto, Calif.
A. Wrong. Mariah's first fast food 'pit stop' was at the Malibu Fish Restaurant, a popular roadside haunt just north of celebrity-studded Malibu.

Q. Is it true that Janet Jackson has pierced body parts? - C.V. Graham, Tex.
A. You betcha. Janet had her nose and right nipple pierced.

Q. I've heard that some Hollywood stars are so rich they can't keep track of all their money. Any truth to that or is it a rumor? - A.S. Baltimore, Md.
A. You're right. Some wealthy celebrities, like Regis Philbin, Jay Leno and Julia Roberts, actually have unclaimed cash they know nothing about gathering dust in government coffers. The money was stashed away by the celebrities in bank accounts that have, in some cases, been inactive for years, or was owed to them by employers, businesses or insurance companies. Under California state law, if it wasn't claimed after three years, the money ends up with the state's Bureau of Unclaimed Property in Sacramento. To get the stash, all the stars have to do is show their Ids. (Reportedly, my sources say, there's a long list of Hollywood stars who have money coming to them. Marlon Brando, for instance, was owed $1,263.28 in royalties and residuals from MCA Records. An Allstate insurance agency owed John Travolta a $48 refund. Larry Hagman was owed $94.70 from the insurance agency, the Chub Group. Prudential Insurance is said to owe Magic Johnson $150. And, Sony Pictures, reportedly, owes Jane Fonda the sum of $28.96).

Q. I heard that Penelope Cruz studied dancing in Mexico as a youth. True or false? - E.K. Gallup, N.M.
A. False. Cruz actually studied classical ballet for nine years, but it was at Spain's National Conservatory.

Q. Did Andie MacDowell work at a Dairy Queen in her hometown before becoming a star? - B.S. Little Rock, Ark.
A. No, she worked at McDonald's and Pizza Hut when she was a teenager.

Q. I'm told that famed attorney F. Lee Bailey 'coined' the term 'serial killer.' Am I correct? - W.D.A. Independence, Mo.
A. Afraid not. FBI agent Robert K. Ressler is credited with 'coining' the term 'serial killer.'

Q. Please help me solve this argument with my sister. She says Drew Barrymore once claimed on TV she was insane and fornicated with her priest and a member of her parish. I disagree. - B.K. Jupiter, Fla.
A. You're right. Your sister better get her facts straight. It was actress Anne Heche - not Drew Barrymore - who told Rosie O'Donnell she was insane for years. And, there was nothing mentioned about fornication with a priest and a member of her parish. Ellen DeGeneres' ex claimed she spoke to God in a secret language. She also said she had a second personality, a space alien known as Celestia.

Q. John Voight's girlfriend in 'Midnight Cowboy' was Ann-Margret. Right? - M.S. Portland, Oregon.
A. Nope. Voight had a fling with Brenda Vaccaro in 'Midnight Cowboy.'
