Q. I’ve heard all kinds of weird stuff about Pamela Anderson since she found out she had hepatitis. Will she be able to continue her career in show business and what will this do to her plans to marry Kid Rock? Please give me the lowdown. – M.P., Little Rock, Ark.
A. If Pamela Anderson has her way, you'll probably be seeing a lot less of her for about a year. Appearing recently on ''Larry King Live,'' the former ''Baywatch'' and ''V.I.P.'' star told King she plans to take a year off to fight hepatitis C, (the incurable disease she claims she got by sharing a tattoo needle with ex-husband Tommy Lee).
''I'm thinking of doing it in December,'' she said of her treatment, which will involve a regimen of Interferon and other drugs. ''It's going to be a year of basically having the flu. Your hair falls out. It's a little kind of chemotherapy kind of, [with] throwing up.'' She added, ''I want to do it for my kids, because I don't want to die, basically.''
While she didn’t come right out and say so, Anderson suggested she may also put on hold her plans to wed Kid Rock. ''I could say right now we're in the trenches. We're just working on things,'' she said of their relationship. She said that she's still wary of commitment because of her soured marriage to Lee, who had denied sharing a tattoo needle with Anderson or being infected with hepatitis C.
Anderson will, however, still be taking on projects that don't require her to appear on camera, like her column for Jane magazine or her voice work for the upcoming TNN cartoon ''Stripperella.''
Q. What’s this rumor about Drew Barrymore hiring a psychic? – V.T., El Paso, Tx.
A. It’s not a rumor. It’s true. Drew hired a psychic to find out if there were any bad vibes floating around her new Hollywood Hills home. This stems from the fact that her former residence was destroyed by fire. Reportedly, the seer walked around her $45-million estate to get a feel for the plush property’s “vibe,” and later told her that the “aura” of her place fit her own and that she’d be very happy living there. (Drew, evidently, wanted to be sure, so she later burned some insense to chase away any evil spirits). Then the dude also told the actress where to install some hexagonal reflective mirrors, supposedly, to keep the evil spirits from returning.
Q. My girlfriend says Melanie Griffith commissioned a sculptor to do her own private version of Antonio Banderas. True or false? – C.A., Tucson, Ariz.
A. True, but the sculptor didn’t capture Zorro’s face; instead, he aimed much lower.
Q. I saw something on “Entertainment Tonight” about Britney Spears collapsing after one of her concerts. What was her problem? – B.T., Ardmore, Okla.
A. Britney’s health problem was caused by a food binge, basicly, caused by her depression after breaking up with Justin Timberlake (she packed on 15 pounds) and a crash diet, later, in a desperate attempt to shed the flab. She also has been pushing herself to exhaustion with concert gigs and the opening of her new restaurant.
Q. Has Kim Delaney won her battle with the bottle, and will we see her again on TV anytime soon? – W.Z., Salt lake City, Utah.
A. The former “NYPD Blue” star is, reportedly, clean and sober and her career is moving forward. She’s landed a lead role in the TV crime drama, “CSI:Miami.” The new show is set to air this fall. Her co-star is another “NYPD Blue” alum, David Caruso.
Q. Is it true that Kathie Lee Gifford is really young enough to be the daughter of her husband Frank? – C.T., Ft. Worth, Tx.
A. Kathie Lee is 48. Frank is 74. His son, Jeff, was born the same year as Kathie Lee.
Q. Does Gwyneth Paltrow have a shoe fetish, or am I hearing just a lot of hype? – K.M., Marlin, Tx.
A. The actress does, indeed, have a shoe fetish. She normally purchases elegant pumps and strappy-type sandals each week at Madison shoe store at the trendy Brentwood Gardens shopping Center in L.A.’s Brentwood area.
Q. How does Catherine Zeta-Jones keep her hair looking so shiny? – C.A., Bisbee, Arizona.
A. According to her press people, Catherine doesn’t go to an expensive stylist. She applies castor oil to her fingers and works it into her hair after she finishes styling it. That’s what gives it the great shine and fizz control.
Q. How can Jerry Springer look at himself in the mirror every morning when he hosts such a trashy show on TV? – P.R., Billings, Montana.
A. The truth is, Jerry could care less. He’s only in it for the bucks. The former mayor of Cincinnati in the 1970s sees politics in his not-too-distant future – probably for governor or the U.S. House or Senate.
Q. What caused Liz Taylor’s new health crisis? – K.S., Salt Lake City, Utah.
A. Shortly after her friend Rod Steiger’s death, Elizabeth went to the hospital three times, with what she described as a shortness of breath, before she was finally admitted. Doctors diagnosed pneumonia, which the 70-year-old star almost died from some 10 years ago. She was put on an I.V. to prevent dehydration and, hopefully, get the infection under control.
