STAR SURFER
Justine Bateman
Former “Family Ties” member Justine Bateman has embarked upon a new career as a fashion designer to some of today’s hottest new stars.
A tight-knit circle of celebrities fell in love with her knit top creations, including Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Courtney Love, Janet Jackson, Heather Locklear and Chloe Sevigny.
Becoming a designer was kinda “a funky fluke” for Justine, who had never knitted before she visited the L.A. yarn shop La Knitterie Parisienne in 1999. Soon afterward, photographers and fashion stylists were contacting the star about using her clothing pieces in music videos and fashion spreads.
Stitching together her own company, she launched a new label – Justine Bateman Designs. Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel, Fred Segal and other elegant stores and boutiques across the country began selling out of her sexy Ring Tops, Ladder Shirt with its lace-up front, chenille halters, shawls and tees. Her designs became so popular, they were even mentioned on “Saturday Night Live”.
